Not fair for airline to charge me for checking luggage, then when the hoards of people at the gate are told there is no more room to stow luggage overhead on the plane and that luggage will be checked for free at the gate. Charge everyone for luggage whether it is taken onboard or stowed in the cargo. It’s all about jet fuel anyway. Also the planes would boarded faster if we went back to requiring luggage to be checked to the cargo hold. I’m tired of having my flight departures delayed by passengers bringing behemoth suitcases onboard the plane. I’ve also come close to being injured by people stowing or removing large and heavy bags in the overhead bins. No more hidden fees. This is wrong.

Regarding the passage about requiring large passengers to purchase two seats…With the variable ticket pricing models the airlines already employ, it would be simple to ad a caveat to all ticket purchases, that maximum girth on seats is limited to “x” inches. They could advise those needing or desiring additional width in seats to click on another section. There could be one row across in every plane with two seats on either side of the aisle in a special “accomodation class” at a slightly higher fare. They should also post the caveat that the airlines reserves the right to move any passenger purchasing a “standard fare” seat to an “accomodation class” seat if they determine the regular seat may impose on the comfort of adjacent passengers… more »

…and that the upgraded seat will be charged at the prevailing surcharge. Hopefully this would be an incentive for those of wider girth to avoid embarrassment and purchase the roomier seat. I’m personally tired of being placed in center seats between two oversize passengers where I have to endure a 4 hour flight and can’t even move my arms during the entire flight because someone is hanging over the armrest. « less
